Let Your Life Speak: Sharing Jesus Through the Way We Love

The gospel becomes visible when ordinary people choose Christlike love—especially when that love is not returned. When I wrote the song, I Learned, i remember thinking about how Jesus showed us how to live, love, walk, pray, etc. by simply doing those things. Now, as children of God we have the responsibility to set the example of how we are to walk as Christians by simply doing it. Keep in mind that we all have people that follow us. So the question then is, where and how are we leading them?

Our Walk Is Often the First Message People Hear

Sharing Jesus Christ is not limited to a sermon, a church invitation, or a carefully chosen verse. Those things matter, but long before someone listens to what we say about Jesus, they may be watching how we live. Our patience in a difficult moment, our honesty when compromise would be easier, and our kindness toward someone who cannot repay us can all point to the One we follow.

Our lives do not replace the spoken gospel, but they can give our words credibility. When our conduct reflects humility, grace, and truth, people are given a glimpse of Christ’s character. A consistent walk creates space for honest conversations about the hope within us.

Loving When Love Is Not Returned

It is natural to love people who appreciate us, agree with us, and treat us well. The harder calling is to love those who misunderstand us, overlook us, oppose us, or respond to kindness with coldness. Yet this is where Christlike love becomes most visible. Jesus did not wait for people to deserve His compassion. He loved first, served freely, and extended mercy even while facing rejection.

Loving someone does not mean approving every choice, ignoring harmful behavior, or refusing wise boundaries. It means we do not allow another person’s response to determine our character. We can speak truth without cruelty, set boundaries without bitterness, and forgive without pretending that trust is instantly restored. Our love is rooted in Christ, not in whether another person earns it or returns it.

Faithfulness Plants Seeds We May Not See

We may never know how deeply a quiet act of grace affects someone. A gentle answer may interrupt a cycle of anger. A dependable friendship may challenge a person’s belief that Christian love is only talk. A sincere apology may show that following Jesus produces humility rather than self-righteousness. God can use small acts of obedience to soften hearts over time.

Our responsibility is not to force a response or win every argument. We are called to be faithful: to live with integrity, to love consistently, and to speak about Jesus with gentleness and courage when opportunities arise. The outcome belongs to God. Even when love is rejected, it is never wasted when it is offered in obedience to Him.

What This Can Look Like Today

  • Listen to understand instead of waiting for your turn to speak.
  • Offer help without keeping score or expecting recognition.
  • Respond to harshness with calm truth rather than retaliation.
  • Pray for the person who has hurt or disappointed you.
  • Seek forgiveness quickly when your own conduct fails to reflect Christ.
  • Share the reason for your hope naturally, without pressure or pretense.

Keep Walking in Love

The people around us may forget many of our words, but they often remember how we treated them. Each day gives us another opportunity to make the love of Jesus tangible—in our homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and everyday encounters. We will not do this perfectly, but we can walk humbly, depend on the Holy Spirit, and begin again when we fall short.

Let us love because Christ first loved us. Let us serve without demanding applause, show mercy without requiring repayment, and remain faithful even when others do not respond as we hope. When our walk matches our testimony, those around us can see that Jesus is more than a subject we discuss—He is the Lord who is changing the way we live and love.
